City Tour of Würzburg

Our guided tours will have two destinations: Würzburg Residence and Marienberg Fortress.

Würzburg Residence

Würzburg Residence is a baroque palace that was built between 1720 and 1744 and was the residence of Würzburg’s prince bishops. In 1982 the palace and palace square were declared as UNESCO world heritage and nowadays is mostly used as a museum. The tour will guide you through the beautiful palace highlighting stunning architecture and frescoes. The tour also includes the scenic rococo garden area with different fountains, terraces and statues.

Marienberg Fortress

Crossing the river Main, we will make our way up to Marienberg Fortress, one of Würzburg’s most famous landmarks. Located at the top of Marienberg hill it offers a stunning view across Würzburg. First construction on the hill started in the early 8th century with a church, that was later declared Würzburg’s first bishop church in 742. The fortress was built after the Thirty-Years’ War and still shapes the look of Marienberg Fortress today. The tour will guide you through different facets of the fortress and the prince garden area. Afterwards, the Museum of Franconia gives more detailed insights on the history of the fortress.
