The 2019 workshop of the ENB IDK TOIS PhD students (which is already the 4th of its kind) took place from February 18 to 22 in Brixen, Italy. It was this time organized by students of Würzburg. Every participating student had the chance to present his research in a 20 minutes talk and/or present it on a poster. The poster session and coffee breaks gave the opportunity for more detailed discussions of the presented topics. With Erwann Bocquillon (LPENS Paris) and Tobias Meng (TU Dresden) we were very happy to have two young, motivated scientists, who gave more detailed lectures about fundamentals of the field of topological insulators as well as their actual research topics. Apart from the physics program we had Niels Linnemann from the University of Geneva with us to introduce basic aspects and some contemporary debates of the philosophy of science. This was followed by evenings in the small town of Brixen, where the discussions were continued in a cozy and informal atmosphere. A city tour and a workshop dinner also gave some insight in the local culture and cuisine, which completed the program of the workshop.
